Renewing Skin at TriBeCa MedSpa
Review By: Pretty City Editors
Possessing both cozy charm and upscale sophistication, TriBeCa has become one
of Manhattan's most popular neighborhoods. Its mix of cobblestone streets, mom-and-pop
businesses and chic boutiques is just as eclectic as the New Yorkers who live
and work there. Sandwiched in between the bustling restaurants and shops of
Hudson Street, TriBeCa
MedSpa, like the neighborhood itself, offers a relaxing respite from the
busy city.
With its perfect blend of tasteful aesthetics and medical professionalism,
TriBeCa
MedSpa has something for everyone. The décor is modern, minimalist, and
immaculate. As soon I walked in the door and was greeted by the friendly receptionist,
I knew that this was a place for both excellent medical care and relaxation.
That excellent medical care comes from Gerald D. Ginsberg, M.D., F.A.C.S.,
the Medical Director of TriBeCa
MedSpa. In private practice in New York City since 1983, Dr. Ginsberg also
serves as the Director of Plastic Surgery at New York Downtown Hospital. He
received his Medical Doctorate from Northwestern University and completed his
residency in General and Plastic Surgery at NYU Medical Center and is board
Certified in Plastic Surgery.
As I entered, the receptionist immediately escorted me to the Tranquility Room,
a pleasing enclave of dark wood, woven area rugs and a flat screen TV on the
wall. Here, I comfortably awaited my esthetician and filled out a new client
form. As soon as I finished my paperwork, the medical esthetician was waiting
for me. She led me down the hallway to the ladies room, which was equipped with
Camille Vita Cleanse. This deep, yet gentle cleanser removed my makeup and any
excess dirt and oil without drying out my skin.
When my face was squeaky clean, my esthetician brought me to a consultation
room for my Visia Skin Analysis. I sat before a machine similar to one used
by optometrists, (I had to fit my chin into the little tray and press my forehead
against the top) except this one examines the different layers of the skin.
The esthetician typed away on the keyboard next to me, and, less than a minute
later, she pulled up multiple pictures of my skin on a flat-screen monitor.
The analysis checked for wrinkles, sun damage, acne-causing bacteria and age
spots, and also offered an assessment of my skin's tone and texture. The esthetician
explained each of the analysis' results to me, and showed which percentiles
I fell into for each category. Using her expertise alongside the Visia Analysis
system, she diagnosed my skin as extremely dry, and suggested I partake in a
Glycolic Acid Peel.
Used for anti-aging and treating sun damage and uneven skin tone, medical grade
glycolic acid can be applied in one of three strengths, 35%, 50% or 70%. When
left on the skin for a few moments, it loosens the top layer of dead skin and
leaves skin looking younger and more vibrant.
As we got started on my Peel, my esthetician brushed 35% glycolic acid in a
consistent layer across my face. As the Peel worked, I experienced a slight
burning and tingling sensation. To ease the small amount of discomfort, my esthetician
directed a small fan onto my face. The esthetician watched my skin closely to
make sure I had no adverse reactions, and after leaving it on for about three
minutes, she removed the glycolic acid with a cool rag. Next, she applied an
ice pack to calm my skin and left me to relax for a few moments before returning
to apply products from the Cosmeceutical line.
These products are applied to each client according to their specific skin
needs. To treat my dry skin, the aesthetician applied Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum,
Squalane Moisture Seal and Oil Free Sun Block. After systematically applying
the products and adding a soothing neck and scalp massage, I felt totally rejuvenated.
Not to mention, my face felt like it was glowing with good health. One look
in the mirror showed that it was.
