The Great Googa Mooga: An Amusement Park of Food & Drink recommended by Anya Trent
May 19, 2012 - May 20, 2012 HOURS: Saturday, May 19th, 2012: 11AM - 9PM Sunday, May 20th, 2012: 11AM - 8PM Neathermead Meadow Brooklyn's Prospect Park Brooklyn, NY 11215
Get Tickets |
General Admission Early registration for free tickets is currently flu but more tickets will be released closer to the event.
Extra Mooga Extra Mooga tickets are on sale NOW! One price, lots of de-lights! Extra Mooga is an all-inclusive, paid-for experience.
On May 19th & 20th, 2012, Brooklyn’s historic Prospect Park will transform into an amusement park of food and drink, The Great GoogaMooga. Approximately 75 food vendors, 35 brewers, 30 winemakers and 20 live music performances will be on hand to help us relish some of life’s greatest pleasures—gathering with friends and neighbors to eat, drink, talk, laugh, dance, linger and just . . . be together.
We envision a place where the best chefs and purveyors can serve their food and bring about instant elation. Where everyday food lovers can discover and share amazing new tastes, and where the right slice of pizza can be as treasured/praiseworthy as four-star fois-gras.
And with such an inclusive feel that it will appeal to everyone who eats.
In order to take this idea from the imagined to reality, we reached out to a team of collaborators, contributors, dreamers and tinkerers that includes Anthony Bourdain (author and host of No Reservations), David Rockwell (founder & CEO of the Rockwell Group), Tom Colicchio (chef & judge of Top Chef), Garrett Oliver (brewmaster of the Brooklyn Brewery), Paul Grieco (sommelier/co-owner of Terroir & Hearth), Eddie Huang (chef/owner of Baohaus) and several others.
As the presenters behind some of today’s most successful festivals, we’ve been inspired by the rich food traditions of New Orleans where Superfly got its start, the stick-to-your-ribs goodness of Tennessee down home cooking at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival and the vibrant flavor of the Bay Area’s Californian cuisine, wine and produce which is omnipresent at Golden Gate Park’s Outside Lands Festival.
After a quick look around, there was no question but to hold The Great GoogaMooga in New York, amid Brooklyn’s swagger, enthusiasm, and adventurousness and of course, in beautiful Prospect Park. Already America’s food capital, New York is experiencing a culinary revolution that is transforming a whole generation into food enthusiasts. (“Food,” noted one critic, “is the new rock.”)

inSHAPE Fitness Civilized Boot Camp recommended by Meghan Williams
May 21, 2012 - May 31, 2012 Fifth Avenue and 110th Street, Pioneers Gate, New York, NY
|
Join popular fitness experts from inSHAPE Fitness, the leader in gym-free fitness, for a high-energy workout that is suitable for both beginners and experienced athletes. Using our company-branded trio of exercise pairing, precision of movement, and proper pacing, your instructor will guide you - not yell at you - through one of the best outdoor workouts of your life.
We warm up, get your heart rate up, and work all major muscle groups, along with focusing on better posture, balance, agility, and flexibility. Intervals are based on time, which means that at no point will you be forced to perform a certain number of repetitions. By moving at your own pace, you make the most of your ability level, with a little push perhaps to new levels, and leave the session feeling great. Your body weight is the primary mode of resistance (your teacher may bring light weight bands or ropes) so the only thing that you need to bring is a bottle of water and a mat/towel.
We meet at Pioneer's Gate, the northeast entrance of Central Park, a quiet section of our busy city. Located within a 5-minute walk of the 2/3 train stop at 110th Street, or the 6 train at 110th Street (it's about a 10-minute walk from the B/C train stop at 110th Street), the back drop of our sessions is the Harlem Meer and Nature Center. If you haven't spent much time in this part of the park, it is a beautiful way to start the day.
Visit inshape-fitness.com to select your workout date and time.
